Rebecca Jones Prince

Rebecca Jones (Becky) Prince passed away at the age of 77 in the early morning of August 9, 2026, following a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. She went peacefully in her sleep surrounded by loving family in her Louisiana, Missouri home. Becky was originally from Petal, Mississippi, having graduated from Petal High School and attended the University of Southern Mississippi, majoring in mathematics. Becky worked first as a CPA assistant in Hattiesburg, Mississippi and then as a teacher’s aide in the Springfield, Massachusetts School System, teaching students with developmental disabilities in underserved schools. Becky moved to Louisiana, Missouri in 1979, where she worked as a substitute teacher and sales associate for Century 21. Becky devoted her life to helping others. In Springfield, Massachusetts, she led women volunteers as a member of the Junior League. In Missouri, Becky served on the Louisiana School Board, the Louisiana City Council, and directed Louisiana Community Betterment. She was a Mayoral Candidate and named Citizen of the Year in 1995 by the Louisiana Chamber of Commerce. Becky’s leadership roles also included the Louisiana Economic Development Committee, Louisiana Museum Board, Vision 2000, and the Louisiana Garden Club. She led the local efforts of multiple charities, including the March of Dimes, Red Cross, Multiple Sclerosis Society, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, John Cotton Memorial Animal Shelter, and the Pike County Sheltered Workshop. Becky was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she taught Bible School and was a member of Ruth Circle. Perhaps most importantly, Becky was a devoted friend and supporter to her neighbors in the community, always eager to share her time, compassion, and even baked goods. Becky was a voracious reader and enjoyed traveling the world with the companionship of her husband Gary, with whom she shared 55 years of marriage. Becky is survived by her husband Gary Prince, her son Lance Prince and his wife Julie Gillespie Prince of Redwood City, California, and sisters Cindy Martin of Purvis, Mississippi, and Wendy Garner of Houston, Texas. Becky has three grandchildren, Jack Prince of Bishop, California, Lily Prince of San Diego, California, and Beau Prince of Tucson, Arizona. She is preceded in death by her parents Harold and Eloise Jones, brothers William Jones and Robert Jones and her sister Penny Jones Alexander. A memorial service will be held at 5:00 P.M. Saturday, August 15, 2026 at the Collier Funeral Home in Louisiana, Missouri. Visitation will be from 3:00 P.M. until time of service Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to the March of Dimes or American Cancer Society.
