Lisa Marie Pitzer

One in a Billion Lisa Marie Pitzer will never be forgotten by those she knew and helped throughout her lifetime. She was the epitome of selflessness, showing friendliness, love, and empathy in all aspects of her life. Lisa was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in June 2025. Though understandably scared, she remained optimistic as she began her treatment journey. In July 2025, she underwent emergent, life-saving surgery, followed by several months of chemotherapy supported by the unwavering love of family and friends. Lisa passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on February 9, 2026, due to complications from her illness. Lisa was born on February 20, 1959, in Louisiana, Missouri. She grew up in Clarksville, Missouri, with her parents, brother, and sister. She was a dedicated student, cheerleader, and a member of the band, graduating with the Clopton High School Class of 1977. After graduation, she moved to Monroe City to live and work full-time before later returning home to Clarksville to help care for her sick mother. She then pursued a career in nursing at St. Mary’s College in O’Fallon, graduating in 1988. Lisa was deeply passionate about her nursing. She began working at Pike County Memorial Hospital (PCMH) in 1988 as a nurse on the medical/surgical floor. In 1993, she expanded her service to the community by joining the Pike County Health Department, where she served in many roles, including field staff hospice nurse, hospice coordinator, and community health coordinator. She later returned to PCMH in 2008, working as needed before being promoted to Medical/Surgical Nursing Director from 2010 to 2018. In 2018, she transitioned into grant writing and later served as Infection Prevention Coordinator during the covid-19 pandemic. After stepping away from full-time hospital work in 2021, Lisa continued writing grants remotely for PCMH. In 2022, she began working with Community Asset Builders as a grant writer supporting healthcare needs in Pike County and other rural communities. Her talent helped secure hundreds of thousands of dollars to benefit local healthcare. She continued this meaningful work throughout her illness. While Lisa was devoted to her profession, her greatest dedication was to her family. She was a loving wife to Clint for 34 years and a proud mother to her two sons, Ryan and Greg. She often shared how much her family meant to her. Lisa and Clint met in 1989 and married in 1991. Ryan was born in 1992 and Greg in 1994. They raised their family in Louisiana, Missouri. Lisa was a shining example of motherhood—teaching right from wrong, making sure ball practices were never missed, and always putting her family first. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures: days on the water, her cats and grand-dog, attending her sons’ ball games, Coca-Cola, Mizzou tailgates, and playful debates with her husband. Lisa was kind, funny, and unwavering in her beliefs. She was a daughter of God. Faith was an important part of her life — it was who she was as a wife, mother, nurse, and friend. She upheld Catholic values and was seen as a pillar of faith to her family. Lisa is survived by her husband, Walter Clinton Pitzer; her children, Ryan and Gregory Pitzer; her brother, John Boyd Seward (Todd S.); and her sister, Linda Rose Black (Seward). Although she had no grandchildren, Lisa deeply loved her many cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as her son's dog and her two cats. She was preceded in death by her father, John Gregory Seward Jr., her mother, Marie Agnes Seward (Spalding), and brother-in-law William “Rusty” Black. Lisa will be tremendously missed not only by her family and friends but also by the many people in the community whose lives she touched. Her spirit will live on through all who were fortunate enough to know her.
