Kelly G. Johnson

Kelly “Beefy” Gale Johnson, of Smithville, Missouri, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2026 with his wife and daughters by his side. He was 65 years old. Born on June 22, 1960, in Louisiana, MO, Kelly lived with a big laugh, a bigger heart, and a spirit that could fill any room. If you knew Kelly, you knew you were probably about to hear a joke, a hunting story, or his favorite saying, "mighty good" On December 20, 1980, he married the love of his life, Karen Francine Johnson (Bronson). Together they built a life full of love, family, laughter, and memories that will live on. Kelly is survived by his devoted wife, Karen; his daughters, Samantha Johnson and Jordan Johnson; his beloved grandsons, Keegan Dy and Kaiden Dy, who brought endless pride and joy to his life. He is also survived by his sister Joni Smith and his brothers Scott Johnson and Kevin Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marylin and Francis "Pete" Johnson. Kelly loved the outdoors with his whole soul. Hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting and just being outside was where he felt most at home. He never met a stranger and was always ready to lend a hand to anyone who needed it. Outgoing, generous, and funny as hell, Kelly had a way of making people feel welcome wherever he went. Growing up, Kelly and his brothers were known around town as a trio of troublemakers, creating stories that still make people laugh today. Those stories, along with his unforgettable personality, will continue to be shared for years to come, passed between friends and family. Kelly leaves behind a family who loved him deeply, and a community that will miss his laughter, kindness, and larger than life presence. The world feels a little quieter without Beefy in it, but his spirit will echo in every "mighty good" moment shared by those who loved him. Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, May 26th at the Collier Funeral Home in Louisiana, MO. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, May 27th at the Riverview Cemetery in Louisiana, MO. Memorials can be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
