John Wetzel

Funeral services for Mr. John E. Wetzel, 86, of Louisiana, Missouri will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, October 13th at the Collier Funeral Home in Louisiana, Missouri. The Rev. Alvin Young assisted by The Rev. Pat Glenn will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 P.M. Friday, October 12th at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery in Louisiana. Mr. Wetzel died Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at his home in Louisiana. He was born November 22, 1920 in Pearl, Illinois to Edwin and Prudence Rader Wetzel. He married Virginia Maurine May April 11, 1938 at the 2nd Baptist Church in Bowling Green, Missouri and she survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Charlotte Wood and husband, John of Louisiana, Missouri, One son, John Wetzel and wife, Annice of Columbia, Missouri, Three grandchildren, Ginny Wood of East St. Louis, Illinois, Monty Wood of Jefferson City, Missouri and Eric Wetzel and wife, Tammy of Cottontown, Tennessee and two great-grandchildren, Erica Wetzel and Alicia Wetzel both of Cottontown, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Edwin and Prudence Wetzel, one sister, Virginia Wetzel and a brother, Richard Wetzel. He had owned and operated Louisiana Plumbing and Heating for many years. He was a veteran serving with the United States Army Air Corps in the South Pacific during World War II. He was a past City Councilman in Louisiana. John was extremely active in the Masonic Organization. He was Past Master of Perservance Lodge #92 in Louisiana. He co-founded the Square and Compass Club in 1948. He served as District Deputy Grand Master and was for many years the Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee for the Grand Lodge of Missouri. He was a 33rd degree Mason and the seventh recipient of the Harry S. Truman Medal, the highest award bestowed on a Missouri Master Mason He was a member of Moolah Shrine Temple in St. Louis, Missouri and Past President of Nemo Shrine Club at Hannibal, Missouri. John enabled many children to receive free care at the Shrines Children?s Hospital in St. Louis. He was Area Coordinator of Pike County for the Walker Scottish Rite Clinic for Childhood Language Disorders of St. Louis. He was devoted to his wife, family and the Masonic Organization.
