Funeral services for Mrs. Eileen Gentry Smith, 90, of Louisiana, Missouri will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 8th at the Centenary United Methodist Church in Louisiana. The Rev. Jeanie Webdell assisted by The Rev. Pat Glenn will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 7th at the home of her son, Philip, 215 N. 3rd Street, Louisiana, M0. Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery in Louisiana. Mrs. Smith died Friday, June 5, 2009 at the Maple Grove Lodge in Louisiana. She was born January 28, 1919 in Paynesville, Missouri to J. C. and Reba Gladney Gentry, the 2nd of 6 daughters. Eileen married A. D. Smith April 23, 1938. He preceded her in death in 1985. She is survived by one son, Philip Smith (Andrea) of Jefferson City, Missouri, grandchildren, great grandchildren and one sister, Lynda Galloway. She was preceded in death by her parents, One son, Curtis D. Smith (2006), Four sisters, Dascrene Sitton, Isabel Luck, Ruth Ellen Bryant and Betty Findley. Eileen Gentry Smith graduated from Paynesville High School at age 16, attended Central Methodist College in Fayette, Missouri for 2 years and returned to Pike County to begin her career in education. She taught in one room school houses in the Wright, Allison and Ramsey schools. She was an educator for over 40 years, both in the class room and administration in Paynesville, Eolia, Clopton and Louisiana, retiring as Principal of the Louisiana Primary School. Eileen Gentry Smith received a B.S. Degree from Washington University in St. Louis, did graduate work at University of Missouri and Truman State University, receiving her masters and specialists degrees from Truman State University. “Miss Eileen”, as most of her students referred to her, loved to read and complete crossword puzzles. Eileen was active in the Pike County Democrat Club and the campaign’s of her son, Philip, from 1990 through 2002. She was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church in Louisiana. Pallbearers are; Karl Dewey, Jr., Galen Johnson, Don Giltner, Bruce Griffith, Jamail Chatman, George Shrum and Steve Bolton.
