William Elmer (Bill) Niffen, 79, of Louisiana Missouri, passed away Monday., May 19, 2014 at Maple Grove Lodge in Louisiana with family by his side. Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, May 23 at the Collier Funeral Home; Services will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2014 beginning at 1 p.m. followed by burial at Riverview Cemetery in Louisiana. Bill was born August 11, 1934 to the late Harvey Wright Niffen and Rosa Nell (Wilcox) Niffen. Bill was born eighth of ten siblings including Anna Beatrice, Jenny Delilah, Hazel May, Thomas Lafe, Nellie Eudora, Harvey Altertus, Ester Jean, Emmett Lee and Mary “Bunny” Bernice. He graduated from Louisiana High School after lettering and setting several records in track. After graduation he joined the United States Army where he served honorably during a tour in Korea. After discharge he ended up working for the majority of his life for General Motors in Fairfax, Kansas from which he retired. He was married and was preceded in death by Mildred Rose Niffen of Kansas City, Missouri where she and Bill had resided while he worked at General Motors. Bill had six children which included Deryl Royce and wife Linda of Dunlap Missouri, one unnamed upon request, William George and wife Carla of Troy Missouri, Robert Thomas and wife Charlene Niffen of Smithville, Missouri ; Penny Jane Niffen of Louisiana, Missouri; and William Elmer and Lorie Niffen of Liberty Missouri. Bill had 19 Grandchildren and 19 Great Grandchildren. Bill was also active in scouting where he served as an assistant scout master while three of his sons attained Eagle Scout. In addition, his sons and grandsons have over 80 years of honorable service in the U. S. Marine Corps, Air Force and Army. They have degrees from aeronautical engineering to law. Gifts and donations should be directed to the American Cancer Society.
