William "Bill" George Heffner

August 27, 1933 - April 12, 2022

William George “Bill” Heffner, 88, of Louisiana, MO, passed away on Tuesday, April 12, 2022 in Chesterfield, MO. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 16, 2022 at the Collier Funeral Home in Louisiana, MO. The Rev. Mike Dallas officiating. Burial will be at the Fairview Cemetery near Louisiana, MO. Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until time of service Saturday at the funeral home. Bill was born on August 27, 1933 in Clayton, MO to George Thomas Heffner and Lillian Marie Neusbaum Heffner. He attended school in Viegs, MO for 2 years, then at Creve Coeur, MO, and moved to Eolia, MO attending school in Silex, MO until his sophomore year. He worked at home on the farm until 1949 when he moved to Louisiana, MO. On November 12, 1951 he joined the US Air Force. He was stationed at San Antonio, TX and attended school in Denver, CO. A veteran of the Korean War serving on the Paradise 90th Bomb Squadron. He served 16 weeks in Korea and 19 weeks in Japan. He returned to Eglin Air Force Base in Florida in 1956 and received his Honorable Discharge in 1959 having reached the rank of Staff Sgt. On February 7, 1952 he married Maggie Mae Corum at the First Baptist Church in Louisiana, MO. Bill and Maggie had 3 children, Elizabeth Diane Singleton (Ronny) of Curryville, MO, Robin Lee Heffner of Louisiana, MO, and William George Heffner II. He is also survived by his brothers, Edward Heffner (Joanie) of Curryville, MO, Ted Heffner (Ruthie) of Eolia, MO, brother in-law, Ronnie Lawson of Silex, MO, grandchildren, Melissa Pitzer of Bowling Green, MO, Travis Dixon of Bowling Green, MO, Dustin Hawkins (Loretta) of Louisiana, MO, Danel Hawkins (Heather) of Louisiana, MO, Duane Hawkins of Barry, IL, great grandchildren, Amos Pitzer, Lyndsey, Alecia, & Layne Hawkins, Madyson, and Bryanna Hawkins, Annie, Allison, and Remington Hawkins, great great grandchildren, Henley, Heidi, Hayes, and Harmony Pitzer, his beloved dog and companion, Dixie, and many, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, William George and Lillian Marie, his wife, Maggie in 2019, an infant son, William George II, siblings, George Heffner (Patricia) of Canton, OH, Betty Ann Lawson of Silex, MO, Shirley Wolfenbarger of Clovis, NM, Fred and Arlene Heffner of Idaho, and an infant brother who died at birth. In 1959, Bill went to work at Hercules, Inc. in Louisiana, MO. He retired in 1996. While employed there, he served as Vice-President and Steward for several years for the OCAW Union and spent 37 years as an Operator. He served on the Louisiana Council for 7 years and on various committees, and was Mayor Pro tem for 3 years. Honorary pallbearers will be Remington Hawkins and Hayes Pitzer. Active Pallbearers will be Travis Dixon, Dustin Hawkins, Danel Hawkins, Duane Hawkins, Amos Pitzer, and Layne Hawkins. Memorials may be made to the family in care of the funeral home.
