Funeral services for Mr. Thomas L. Niffen, 88, of Louisiana, Missouri, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 17, 2014 at the Collier Funeral Home in Louisiana, Missouri. The Rev. Randall Cone will officiate. Burial will be at the Riverview Cemetery in Louisiana. Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 16th at the funeral home. Mr. Niffen passed away on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois. Tom was born on January 30, 1926 in Ashburn, Missouri to Harvey Wright Niffen and Rosa Nell Wilcox Niffen. He served in the US Navy during WWII on the USS Oakland. He married Doris Jeanne Niffen on December 21, 1945. Together they owned and operated Niffens’ River Road Fish Market. Jeanne preceded Tom in death on July 23, 1990. He was also preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter Karen Jean Niffen, 2 sons Richard Alan Niffen and Thomas Duane “Tink” Niffen, 3 sisters Jenny Niffen, Hazel Niffen, and Anna Duncan, and 2 brothers Harvey “Buck” Niffen and William “Bill” Niffen, a grandson Curtis Wheeler, and a great grandson Robert H. Resor. He is survived by 2 daughters Thelma “Cindy” Wheeler of New London, MO and Regina “Jeannie” Niffen (John Wheeler) of Frankford, MO, 1 son Darrell Niffen (Rhonda) of Santa Fe, MO, 1 brother Emmett Lee Niffen of Louisiana, MO, 3 sisters Nellie Buffington, Jean Niffen, and Mary “Bunny” Brown all of Louisiana, MO, 10 Grandchildren, numerous Great Grandchildren, 3 Great Great Grandchildren, and a special friend Marie Pruitt. Tom was a member and former commander of the VFW Post 3132 in Louisiana, MO and founder of Hospital Transportation Help that provided service for many in the community to get them to and from hospitals and doctor’s offices. Honorary Pallbearers will be James Niffen, Robert Niffen, John Wheeler, Joey Charlton, Roger Howard, and Bryon Wheeler. Active Pallbearers will be Lorin Lamberson, Matthew Resor, Dale Resor, D. J. Resor, Darrell Niffen II, and Thomas D. Niffen Jr. Memorial donations may be given to the American Cancer Society or to the Family in care of Collier Funeral Homes, Inc., 117 Barnard Drive, Louisiana, MO 63353.
