Sarah Elizabeth Norton Sterne of rural Clarksville, beloved wife of the late Homer Sterne, passed into glory to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on her 96th birthday, October 31, 2016 at Maple Grove Lodge in Louisiana, Missouri. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 7, 2016 at Ramsey Creek Baptist Church, Highway W, Clarksville, Missouri. The Reverend John Bateman will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m., November 6 at the Collier Funeral Home, Louisiana, Missouri. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Clarksville. A lifelong resident of Pike County, Sally was born October 31, 1920, the only child of Arthur Lee and Clinnie Rae Boyd Norton. As a young child she accepted the Lord Jesus and became a member of the Clarksville Baptist Church. She graduated from Clarksville High School in 1938 and from Hannibal LaGrange College in 1940. After graduating from Hannibal, Sally worked in St. Louis for over ten years as a secretary. Her last position was as the personal secretary to the senior pastor of Third Baptist Church, St. Louis, the Reverend C. Oscar Johnson. In 1951, she married Homer Sterne and made her home on the family farm in rural Clarksville. She joined the Clarksville Presbyterian Church and remained a member there until after Homer’s death at which time she moved her membership to Ramsey Creek Baptist Church. Throughout her life, Sally enjoyed helping others. She was active in church activities and worked to spread the gospel of Jesus. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and enjoyed doing genealogical research, often helping people from all over the country research family members with connections in Pike County. Sally is survived by her three children, Stephen A. (Elizabeth) Sterne, Sr., of Alexandria, Virginia, Ruth David, and Geoff (Susan) Sterne, both of rural Clarksville and eight grandchildren, Stephen A. (Krystina) Sterne, Jr. of Midlothian, Virginia, Mariana Sterne of Garland, Texas, John David of Edwardsville, Illinois, Katie David of rural Clarksville, Jacob (Tara) David of Overland, Missouri, James David of rural Clarksville, Ben (April) Sterne of Eolia, and Eric (Jessie) Sterne of Clarksville. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Robert Miller, of Clarksville, nephew, David Mobley of Panama City Beach, Florida, and niece, Tammy Smeeks of Tehachapi, California as well as several great nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be her six grandsons, Stephen Sterne, Jr., John David, Jacob David, James David, Ben Sterne, and Eric Sterne. Memorials may be sent to Ramsey Creek Baptist Church designated for missions or to the Clopton Alumni Memorial Scholarship Fund in care of Collier Funeral Homes, Inc., 117 Barnard Dr., Louisiana, Missouri, 63353.
