Richard Hunsicker

August 6, 1939 - August 9, 2015

A Celebration of Life service for Richard Joseph Hunsicker will be held on Thursday, Aug. 20 at 3 p.m. at Elmwood Presbyterian Church with Rev. Randal Cone officiating. Richard J. Hunsicker, 76, of Louisiana was killed in a motorcycle accident on Hwy. 79 north of the city on Sunday, Aug. 9, 2015 according to the state highway patrol. Hunsicker was alone when his motorcycle overturned just south of Pike County Road 120 about four miles south of Ashburn. The Hunsicker family were originally from South St. Louis, but later moved to University City in 1941 where Richard attended elementary, Junior high and High school in University City. The family attended the Hanley Road Presbyterian Church where the beloved Herbert Watson, a well known Presbyterian minister, was pastor. Richard played football at St. Charles High school and later at Kirksville. He is survived by a son, Michael Gregory Hunsicker of St. Charles, MO and Mary Jo Blaze of Community Center, CA. Later, Richard moved to Louisiana where he was well known for his attendance at auctions, and seeking parts for sewing machines. According to family, friends, and neighbors he was known for industry, his neighborliness, and his kindness to all. Through the years he carried a busy correspondence with a large company of people on Facebook. In the last years he chose to communicate the writings of the great spiritual writers. Many of his selections centered on forgiveness and the blessings of community. He will be much missed at the morning coffee shop in Louisiana. Various family members will participate in this Celebration of Life such as Michael Gregory, his son; Matthew, his grandson, and brother Dr. David Hunsicker, a retired career Navy Chaplain. A free will offering for Richard will be received during the service.
