Mr. Norman “Jim” William Myers, 95, of Louisiana, MO, passed away on Thursday, November 14, 2019 at the MO Veteran’s Home in Mexico, MO. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at the Collier Funeral Home in Louisiana, MO. The Rev. Randy Bergthold assisted by Sam Shonhart officiating. Burial will be at the Miller Cemetery near Atlas, IL. Visitation will be held from 12:00 P.M. until time of service on Saturday at the funeral home. Jim was born on October 31, 1924 in Pittsfield, IL to Charles N. Myers and Sarah Dunham Myers. He was married to Pauline Ator Mallinckrodt on May 12, 1966 in Pittsfield, IL and she preceded him in death on August 13, 1995. He is survived by his sister, Barbara Bergthold of Perry, MO, a step-daughter, Rhonda Moran (John) of Phoenix, AZ, 8 step-grandchildren, numerous great step-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, a brother, Wayne Myers, a sister, Lucille Shaw, a step-son, Albert Mallinckrodt, and a step-granddaughter, Patty Paddock. Jim grew up in Illinois and upon turning 18 went to serve in the US Army in April of 1943 in the midst of WWII. He served in the Army Medical Corps attached to the 9th Air Corps which was in the European Operations Theatre. His unit was included in the landing at Normandy and went throughout France and Germany. He was awarded 4 Bronze Stars, a Good Conduct Medal, and a Distinguished Unit Badge. He was honorably discharged in December of 1945. Upon returning home, Jim farmed in the area for a time and in 1952 went to work at Stark Bros. Nursery in Louisiana, MO and was a Supervisor when he retired in 1995. He had a love of horses, enjoyed reading, and he was a talented artist doing many drawings and paintings as a hobby. He had been a bodybuilder and had done some boxing while he was in the Army. He was a lifelong car enthusiast and he was particularly fond of his 2011 black Chevrolet Camaro convertible. Pallbearers will be Ricky Bergthold, Leo Krogmann, Todd Koppinger, Molly Knutson, Deon Mallinckrodt, Jeremy Carl, John Moran, Gary Hamm, and Teresa Mallinckrodt. Honorary pallbearers will be Norman Shaw, Randy Reddell, Matthew Shonhart, and Greg Shonhart. Memorials can be made to the MO Veterans Home Assistance League for the Staff activity fund in care of the funeral home. Online condolences may also be sent at www.collierfuneral.com.
