Funeral services for Mrs. Gloria Kathryn Webb will be held Wednesday, July 9 at 1 p.m. at the Collier Funeral Home in Louisiana (visitation from 11 to 1). The Rev. Terrance Small of Bethel AME, Paynesville, will officiate. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Clarksville, and the repass will be at Ramsey Creek Baptist Church, rural Clarksville. Pallbearers are: Darryl Braxton, Cortez McDonald, Harold Hughes Osby, Robbie Scott, J.E. Turner, Larry Webb, Jr. and James Webster. Mrs. Webb passed away at 5:15 a.m. July 2, 2014, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Chesterfield, Missouri, with her husband, daughter and granddaughter at her bedside. Mrs. Webb was born in Elsberry on October 31, 1933 to Addie (Sweetie) Rose and Elijah Braxton, but she was raised by her paternal grandparents, Nellie and Zeddie Sanders. Her siblings (Marceline, Jessie Bell, Higgins, Billie Gene, Genevieve, James Edward, Mary Ann and Irma), as well as her parents and grandparents, preceded her in death. She attended elementary school in Elsberry, and graduated from Lincoln High School in Louisiana. At Lincoln High, she met her companion of 63 years, Alphonso Webb. Mr. and Mrs. Webb are the parents of one daughter, Kathy Webb-Love, and the grandparents of one granddaughter, Christina Kathryn Laney, both of St. Louis. Mrs. Webb accepted Christ at a young age at Centennial Methodist Church in Elsberry. In the early 1950’s, she became a member of Bethel AME Church in Paynesville, and was an active member there until her health failed. She served as Assistant Sunday School Superintendent, Annual Conference delegate, choir member, Mission Circle member, usher and Men and Women’s Day co-chairperson. She was also a member of the Ladies Aide Club and holds lifetime VFW Auxiliary membership. She held several different offices and served on a variety of committees for Post 4610 in Clarksville. Mrs. Webb was employed at the Kamp Togs Garment Factory in Clarksville for a number of years. She was a skilled machine operator and later a very conscientious floor supervisor. Once “The Factory” closed, she assumed a few housekeeping jobs in the area. Survivors include her husband, Alphonso Webb of the home; daughter, Kathy Webb-Love (J.R.) , St. Louis; granddaughter, Christina Kathryn Laney, St. Louis; mother-in-law, Lula Belle Webb, Louisiana; sisters-in-law Joyce Chambers (Lee), Denver, CO; Rose Webb, Paynesville; Goddaughters, Monique and Jade Morgan Hammuck, Festus.
