George Lindsey Peecher

November 11, 1925 - March 24, 2022

George Lindsey Peecher, 96, formerly of Louisiana, passed away on March 24, 2022 at his home in Washington, Missouri. George, son of the late Luther B. and Nellie Ava Peecher, was born November 11, 1925, in Summer Hill, Illinois. He was united in marriage to Betty Lou (Finney) Peecher June 6, 1954 in Greenfield, Illinois and the couple spent 67 wonderful years together. Upon graduation from Pittsfield High School in 1944, George enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country during WWII. He trained at Great Lakes Naval Academy and attended gunnery school in Gulfport, Mississippi. He served as a gunner on an oil tanker and crossed the Pacific five times. He was honorably discharged in July 1946. He was extremely proud and honored to have served his country. After working in Wood River, IL for Standard Oil Company for 5 years, the couple moved to Louisiana, Missouri where George was employed by Hercules, Inc. for the next 30 years. He retired and bought a farm near his childhood home in Summer Hill, IL. He loved working and playing on his farm. One of his greatest enjoyments in life was watching his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren hunting, fishing, and playing on his farm. Throughout his life, George loved being outside and loved to camp, hunt, and fish. He shared his passion by serving as assistant Scout Master and later Scout Master for Troop 155 in Louisiana. He was also a member of the Louisiana Lions Club, member of Lodge No. 453 A.F.& A M, and the Pittsfield American Legion Post 152. George was one of eleven children and learned at an early age to cherish family and friends. Those who knew him, loved him. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and share his knowledge. He was beloved by numerous generations of relatives and friends. He had a special bond with his grandchildren and great grandchildren; their grandpa and Papa Peecher was their hero. George is survived by his wife, Betty of Washington, MO; son, Roger (Cindy) Peecher of Arrow Rock, MO; daughter, Mary Lou (Robert) Littrell of Washington, MO; 5 grandchildren; Carrie Peecher, Camdenton, MO; Jason (Megan)Peecher, Miami, MO; Annie (Eric) Kessler, Washington, MO; Kristy Littrell, Tampa, FL; Jennifer (Kevin) Biermann, Washington, MO; 9 great grandchildren; Maddie Koenig; Addison and George Peecher; Sydney, Leah and Audrey Kessler; Hallie, Hannah, and Emma Biermann. George has one surviving brother, Lester Peecher, Minneapolis, MN. George was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, 6 brothers, and numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. A memorial visitation will be held Saturday, March 26th, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at Collier Funeral Home, Louisiana, MO, with a memorial service at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow at Summer Hill Cemetery, Summer Hill, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Pike Pioneers Senior Center, 521 Georgia St., Louisiana, MO 63353, or Mercy Health Foundation (Hospice), 901 E. 5th St., Washington, MO 63090.
