Graveside services for Mrs. Genevieve Elseeta Hightower-Jones, 83, of Kansas City, Missouri will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 28, 2015 at the Riverview Cemetery in Louisiana, Missouri. Genevieve Elseeta Hightower-Jones was born on July 23, 1931 to Emma Louise (Moxley-Hightower (Hill) and Martin Luther Hightower, Jr. and was called home by the Master, after 83 long years on May 12, 2015. Both parents preceded her in death as well as her only Sibling Mayme L. Hightower-Mabon. She was born in Hannibal Missouri and raised in Louisiana, Missouri. She graduated from Lincoln School (a small two or three room school) that has since been torn down. In a time where there were few opportunities, and segregated schools, against all odds being (Negro) or African-American in America, she graduated from High School. She had a strong will of survival and passed that along to those closest to her through her words, actions and deeds. As a young woman she married Kenneth H. Jones, and moved to Kansas City Kansas, and joined the Olivet Institutional Baptist Church. The family then moved to Sheraton Estates in Kansas City, Missouri and lived affluently for many years. Additionally, she not only raised her two sons: Michael who attended college at Grambling State University, and achieved many accomplishments, and Kenneth Kelly who served as a paratrooper in the United States Army, in support of his country. She also dedicated her time in raising her oldest nephew, Edward J. Harris, Jr. during his teen years and he went on to succeed in life having obtained his PHD in Education among other accomplishments. She worked at the Department of Agriculture, Social Security Administration, the Census Bureau, and retired as a para- professional at the Georgia Department of Education. She was a resource like none other and an activist in her own right; strong willed, set in her beliefs and she did love through her own personal losses. She loved a lively debate, and defended her position on issues, and firmly stood her ground. She also enjoyed shopping, eating out and an occasional trip to the casino. With an adventurous spirit she lived not only in Louisiana, MO, Kansas City, MO, Kansas City, KS, but also in Denver, CO, Glen Carbon, IL and Columbus, GA. She leaves to mourn her death two sons, Michael Andre Jones and Kenneth Kelly Jones: Six grandchildren; Patrick Michael Jones, Sydney Jones, James Jarrett, Kenneth Kelly Jones II, Kerry Michael Jones, Kristen Rekail Jones; seven great children: Amiya Jones, Colin Jones Malachi Hill, Tenniya Hill, Kendall Jones, Makiyis Taylor, Carlos McPherson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Special acknowledgements to dear friends Josephine Thomas, Freda Acuff, Brenda Chambers and Arnetha Wiggins. Moreover, she had a strong belief in God and would direct you to Psalms 91 in times that you may feel any discontent or discomfort with life’s many trials, and it is as follows: Psalm 91 King James Version (KJV) 91 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. 3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. 4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. 5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; 6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. 7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. 8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. 9 Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; 10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. 11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. 12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. 13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet. 14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. 15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. 16 With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation. In closing; the family on her behalf wishes you Hakuna Matata...no worries until the end of your days…and she bids you all farewell.
