Bessie Skirvin Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Bessie Margaret Skirvin, 86, of Elsberry, MO, passed away on Friday, June 24, 2022 at the Elsberry Care Center in Elsberry, MO. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 A.M. on Friday, July 1, 2022 at the Smith Chapel Church near Elsberry, MO. Burial will be at the Oak Ridge Cemetery, Elsberry, MO. Bessie was born on August 11, 1935 in Pettigrew, AR to Sam Penn and Sintha Weatherby Penn. She was one of 8 children, 2 were born in stillbirth. The family lived in Arkansas till Bessie was a young teenager and traveled to California. She stayed there a short time and returned to the Elsberry area and worked at the glove factory there. Later she worked sewing clothes and then was a cook for many years at the Ivory Room Café. In 1954 she met Louis Skirvin and they were soon married. They had 3 children, Tony Louis in 1954, Richard Glenn in 1958, and Brenda Annette in 1961. They lived in the Annada area for a time and later moved to the Paynesville area. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Louis of 34 years, and a son, Tony Louis Skirvin. She is survived by one son, Richard Skirvin and wife Marie of Eolia, MO, one daughter, Brenda Pitzer and husband Jimmy of Louisiana, MO, grandchildren, Jeremy, Brian, Zack, Jessica, Andrea, Skyler, and Sana, and many great grandchildren and a great great grandchild. Bessie worked at Clopton School housekeeping for many years. In her retirement, she loved working in her garden, taking walks, riding her bike, and dancing and singing. She was loved by all and will be missed. Pallbearers will be Ricky Skirvin, Jimmy Pitzer, Skyler Pitzer, Jeremy Skirvin, Brayden Skirvin, and Braxton Pitzer. Memorial may be made to the Elsberry Care Center in Elsberry, MO. Collier Funeral Home in Louisiana, MO is in charge of arrangements.
