Dorothy Newberry

Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy Clara Newberry, 85, of Louisiana, Missouri will be held at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, April 14th at the Collier Funeral Home in Louisiana, Missouri. The Rev. Jeanne Webdell will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 13th at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Eolia City Cemetery in Eolia, Missouri. Mrs. Newberry passed away Thursday, April 9, 2009 at the Pike County Memorial Hospital in Louisiana, Missouri. Dorothy was born April 27, 1923 in Evansville, Indiana to Louis Henry Badord and Clara Emma Hager Badord. She married Elmer L. Newberry October 28, 1945 in Louisiana, Missouri and he preceded her in death November 12, 1993. Dorothy is survived by one daughter, Gail Ann Miller and husband, Dale of Clarksville, Missouri; two grandchildren, Jason Miller and wife, Theresa of Elsberry, Missouri and Julie Bonnot and husband, Tom of Columbia, Missouri; two great grandchildren, Seth Miller and Pryce Bonnot and one brother, Darrell Badord and wife, Nancy of Blandinsville, IL and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews and “special friends,” Kermit and Mary Nell McFarland and family. Dorothy moved to the Pike County area in 1945. She lived in Annada, Missouri until the flood of 1973 forced a move to Louisiana. She became a resident of Maple Grove Lodge in Louisiana in 2001 following a fall resulting in a broken hip. She and her husband were avid antique dealers. They owned and operated an antique shop in Annada until their move to Louisiana. After they closed their shop they traveled extensively setting up at flea markets all over the United States. Dorothy was a charter member of the Clopton Mother’s Club of Annada, a volunteer at Clopton Schools, member of the Annada Christian Community Church, Elmwood Presbyterian Church in Louisiana, a Pink Lady, and a volunteer at Pike Co. Senior Citizens Center for many years. She loved visiting Amish country and going to the Trimble House. She helped with bake sales at Elmwood and volunteered with many organizations during Colorfest. Dorothy was known for her keen sense of humor and her quick “come backs”. She enjoyed traveling, volunteering, going to garage sales and spending time with her family and friends. Her family was the focus of her life. She cared for her ailing father in her home until his death and raised her only brother. She was a doting mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She never saw a stranger and was known for her “tea parties” and entertaining at her home. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Pallbearers are; Terry Shaw, Frank Mackey, Dale Miller, Tom Bonnot, Jason Miller and Darrell Badord.
