Delores Jean "Dodie" Poor

Delores Jean “Dodie” Poor passed away on November 12, 2017 with several family members by her side. She was 83 years old. Dodie was born on March 22, 1934 in Shelbyville, MO. She was the 8th of twelve children of Ophir Roy and Bessie Lurine (Mahaffey) Vanskike. She married William F. “Bill” Poor in 1951 and they moved to Louisiana in the fall of 1953. Bill owned the Standard Oil Station in Louisiana for 38 years, with Dodie by his side running the business on a daily basis. After retirement they spent 8 summers working in the Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. They joined the Centenary United Methodist Church in 1957 and Dodie continued to be a dedicated member for over 60 years. After Bill’s passing in 2003, she found comfort from her church family. She also enjoyed fun events with the Red Hat Society and meeting with friends at the Trimble House. She was a committed volunteer at local charities, including the Louisiana Clothes Closet. She is survived by her four daughters and their husbands: Debra Corbin (Bob) of Spokane, MO, Dawne Stafford (Robert) of Tulsa, OK, Diana Baumann (Mark) of Hannibal, MO, and Deidre Hoelzeman (Frank) of Denton, TX. She found abundant joy in her 8 grandchildren: Dana Maple (Aileen), Jared Corbin (Andrea), Brooke Linsenbardt (Andy), Mallory Baumann, Rachel Colborn (Jimmy), Taylore King (Trenton), Jordan Stafford, and Griffin Stafford; and continued happiness with little ones, her great grandchildren: Meg, Calvin, Eleanor, and Arabella. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bill, and siblings, Opal Archer, Ophir Vanskike Jr., Claude Vanskike, Ruby Reynolds, Shirley Waibel, Joseph Vanskike, Lucille Threlkeld, and Winnie Vanskike. Surviving sisters are Faye Todd, Jackie Doss, and Marjorie Pickett. Funeral services for Dodie will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, November 20, 2017 at the Centenary United Methodist Church in Louisiana. The Rev. Art Moore assisted by Rev. Jeanne Webdell officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until time of services at 11:00 A.M. Monday at the church. Burial will follow at the Fairview Cemetery near Louisiana. Her grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. All are welcome to come and celebrate her life.
