Funeral services for Mr. Curtis “Spud” Reid, 79, of Louisiana, Missouri, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 15th at the Collier Funeral Home in Louisiana, Missouri. The Rev. John Lilley will officiate. Burial will be at the Elsberry City Cemetery in Elsberry, Missouri. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 14th at the funeral home. Mr. Reid passed away October 12, 2009 at his home with his family. He was born January 26, 1930 in Detroit, Michigan to George S. and Leona M. York Reid. He spent his formative years in Troy, Missouri. He was united in marriage with Mary Louise Lahr on June 7, 1952 and she survives. He is also survived by 2 daughters, Sandra Bassett and husband James of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Nancy Reid of Jefferson City, Missouri, 2 grandchildren, Ami Bassett and Kellie Bassett both of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and 1 sister, Wanda Reid Ross and husband Hervey of Plantation, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, and 2 daughters, Paula Kay and Karen Louise. Spud and Mary made Louisiana their home in 1958 at which time he began his 30 year career as Pike County Memorial Hospital’s Radiology Department Chief. He was a veteran serving with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Spud served his community as a member of the Masonic Temple and former director on the Buffalo Township Fire Protection District’s Board of Directors. He was also well known in the community for his exquisite and unique woodcrafts and custom furniture. He enjoyed learning from others, honing his skills, and sharing his love and knowledge of woodworking with others who shared his enthusiasm for the craft. Honorary Pallbearers will be Don Bronson, Bill Mitchell, Jeff Kneemiller, Firefighters of Buffalo Township Fire Protection District, and Spud’s cousins, Ben Reid, Jackie Reid, Janice Watts, Buck Reid, and Everett Reid. Active Pallbearers will be Edward Muff, Rick Shuford, Francis Wagner, Rick Greenwood, Billy Mitchell, and Karl Dewey, III.
