Carroll E. Chandler

Carroll Edward Chandler, 84, of Louisiana, MO, passed away on Friday, October 7, 2022 at home surrounded by loved ones. Funeral services were held at 12:00 P.M. on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at the Collier Funeral Home in Louisiana, MO with Rev. Mike Thomas officiating. Visitation was held from 11:00 A.M. until time of service at the funeral home. Burial followed at the Fairview Cemetery near Louisiana, MO. Carroll was born on May 9, 1938 in Busch, Missouri the son of James Edward Chandler, Jr. and Eileen Beck Chandler. He was joined in marriage to Patsy Juanita Hight on December 13, 1958 in Louisiana, MO who proceeded him in death on August 28, 2022. Carroll is survived by his children, Carroll Chandler (Carol) of Russelville, MO; Margaret Dunn (Tom) of Bowling Green, MO; Jacqueline Sterne (Harold) of Henderson, NV; Lucinda Traywick of Tuscaloosa, AL; David Chandler (Lona) of Louisiana, MO; Brenda Chandler of Bowling Green, MO; and Brice Chandler (Kimberly) of Louisiana, MO; 21 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; 4 brothers, Larry Chandler of Rush Hill, Missouri; Dale Chandler of Louisiana, Missouri; Mike Chandler of Spencerberg, Missouri; and Dennis Chandler of Perry, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Eileen Chandler; special granddaughter Patsy “P.J.” Juanita Chandler; two brothers, David Neal Chandler Sr. and Clark Chandler; and one sister; Margaret Leverich. Carroll attended school in both rural Pike County and Louisiana, MO where he was a Baptist by faith. In Louisiana, he worked in various careers but was truly passionate about farming. To better provide for his family, he left behind farming to work at Hubbell Manufacturing foundry in Louisiana where he retired. He married Patsy, the love of his life, at the age of 21 and spent 63 years together, raising a large family. Carroll was very protective of his children and grandchildren, always concerned about their safety and welfare. He also took great pride in their achievements (great and small). Although a quiet and private man, he often shared stories of his many childhood adventures with his siblings in rural Pike County. He enjoyed playing guitar, hunting, and fishing. Each of his children have fond memories of hiking through creeks and river bottoms to find hidden fishing holes, fishing on the banks of the Mississippi and Salt Rivers, or trekking the Missouri hills to hunt for small game and morels. Carroll was also an avid car enthusiast and enjoyed tinkering under the hood of everything from muscle cars to old farm trucks—a hobby he often shared with his children despite their level of interest. In his later years, he enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren, and spouse more than anything. Pallbearers were his grandchildren Matt Dunn, Ryan Dunn, Josh Hill, Samantha Momphard, Amanda Traywick, and Harold Sterne Jr. Memorials may be given to the Ruth Jensen Village, any local hospices, or donor’s choice.
